Cashier’s Checks

The cashier’s check is drawn against the financial institution’s account and is considered a more secure form of payment than a personal check. Cashier’s Checks may be purchased with cash, a withdrawal from an Ohio Catholic account, travelers’ checks, VISA debit card, or by taking a cash advance on a VISA credit card.

Cashier’s Checks

  • Can be made out for any amount
  • Must name a payee
  • Nominal fee may apply - see Fee Schedule
  • Stop payments are available 90 days after the check is issued
  • Available at all branch locations

Smart Money Tip– Keep your receipt in case the cashier’s check gets lost or the recipient denies receiving it. This receipt has a check number to verify the status should problems arise.

Smart Money Tip – Watch out for fraudulent cashier’s checks. Cashier’s checks are viewed as relatively risk-free monetary instruments and are often used as a trusted form of payment to consumers for goods and services. However, cashier’s checks have become an attractive vehicle for fraud. Although the amount of a cashier’s check quickly becomes “available” for withdrawal by the consumer after the consumer deposits the check, these funds do not belong to the consumer if the check proves to be fraudulent. It may take weeks to discover that a cashier’s check is fraudulent.
